Tyre Insurance
You are only entitled to this service if you have paid the required premium as indicated on your Star Protected cover note and policy schedule.
It is not available on Star Monthly warranties.
Benefits
The insurer agrees to indemnify you against the cost of repair or replacement of any tyre.
What is covered
Subject to the terms and exclusions of the policy to indemnify you against the cost of any tyre as the direct result of accidental or malicious damage during the period of cover to that tyre fitted to the vehicle at the time of purchase from the supplying dealer and still so fitted at the time of incident, including the necessary cost of a new valve and wheel balancing.
Period of cover
12 months from the date of purchase or until each tyre is below the UK legal limit at any part of the tyre circumference, whichever occurs first.
Exclusions
The certificate does not cover:-
1. A vehicle over 8 years old at the time of purchase;
2. tyres fitted to a vehicle used for racing, pacemaking, speed testing, reliability trails, hire or reward, off road activities, dispatch or courier services or driving tuition, or tyres fitted to agricultural vehicles or commercial vehicles over 35 cwt;
3. Loss or damage caused by fire, theft or any road traffic accident;
4. Damage resulting from defective steering or wheel balance, or failure of any suspension component or shock absorber;
5. Manufacturing defects or faults;
6. Damage caused by prolonged use at incorrect pressure;
7. Costs recoverable under any other insurance or guarantee;
8. Maximum liability per tyre shall not exceed £125;
9. If the tyre cannot be repaired the certificate will cover the cost of a replacement tyre(s) of the same make and quality as the original or subject to the following depreciation clause; Cost of replacement tyre (as specified within your cover note and schedule) multiplied by A/B where
A = Depth of tread at time of loss less 2 millimetres and
B = Original depth of tread as new less 2 millimetres
A minimum deduction £25 per tyre will be made.
Star Certified Warranty
If the tyre cannot be repaired the certificate will cover the cost of a replacement tyre(s) of the same make and quality as the original or subject to the following depreciation clause;
Cost of replacement tyre (as specified within your cover note and schedule) multiplied by A/B where
A = Depth of tread at time of loss less 2 millimetres and
B = Original depth of tread as new less 2 millimetres
10. Tyres that are not 'E' marked or which are below the UK legal limit at the time of incident;
11. damage directly or indirectly caused by or contribution to or arising from:
a) ionising radiation or contamination by radioactivity from any nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste from the combustion of a nuclear fuel;
b) the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other hazardous properties of any explosive nuclear component thereof;
c) war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection or military or usurped power;
d) pressure waves caused by aircraft or aerospatial devices travelling at sonic or supersonic speeds;
12. Any claim made outside the Territorial Limits.
Claims Procedure
In the event of damage to an insured tyre you should:-
1. Report any claim to Star Claims within 48 hours
2. Take your car with the damaged tyre still on the wheel to a Star Approved tyre supplier with schedule and policy document. Contact Star Claims Department on 0870 750 0125 first to find our nearest recommended Star Approved tyre supplier.
3. If the damage was malicious, report the matter without delay to the police and quote their crimes reference number on the claim form.
